Mumbai Toddler Becomes Youngest Participant at Global Cubing Championship

Confidence, curiosity, and early learning come together as Nishik Karla steps into competitive cubing

Mumbai: In a heartwarming display of early curiosity and confidence, Nishik Karla (Date of Birth: June 3, 2023) emerged as the youngest participant at the Rising Cubers Championship, held on April 25 and 26.

A student of JBCN International School, Chembur, his participation highlights the growing trend of introducing children to structured mind sports at a very young age.

The championship, organized by the Junior Cube Association (JCA), is part of a global platform promoting cubing as a mind sport for children under 18, with participation from young cubers across the globe. This edition marked the 23rd championship conducted by JCA in the past four years, building a structured ecosystem where children develop official profiles and rankings in the sport.

At the event, Nishik participated in official formats requiring each puzzle to be solved three times under a timer, testing focus and consistency. Despite being slightly nervous in this environment, he showed remarkable determination.

He attempted multiple events, including the 3x3x3 cube, 2x2x2 cube, and Pyraminx, demonstrating early engagement with logical thinking and puzzle-solving.

What made his participation especially remarkable was his independence. While his parent assisted only in scrambling the cube as per official guidelines, Nishik completed his solving attempts on his own.

Sharing their experience, his parent said: “He was a little nervous with the timer and multiple attempts, but what made us proud was that he still tried independently. At this age, that confidence means everything to us.”

A JCA representative added: “Nishik’s participation reflects how early exposure can shape confidence and structured thinking. At this stage, it’s about building comfort and encouraging exploration.”

Experts recognize cubing as a powerful developmental tool that enhances pattern recognition, hand-eye coordination, memory, and problem-solving skills from an early age.

Nishik’s story serves as an inspiration for parents and young learners, demonstrating that meaningful learning and disciplined thinking can begin remarkably early.

About Junior Cube Association (JCA): The Junior Cube Association is a global platform dedicated to promoting cubing as a structured mind sport for children under 18. Through championships, challenges, and workshops, JCA nurtures young talent by enabling global participation, structured competition, and profile-based rankings.
