Genie Moneyy: Amiit Roy Chowdhury’s Fintech Journey

Thirty Years Inside Indian Banks, Then a Platform for the Customers Branches Never Reached Why: the tension between the two halves of the sentence is the whole story, and it puts ARC at the centre without flattering him.

Amiit Roy Chowdhury spent the better part of thirty years inside Indian banking, more than fifteen of them across HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank in retail, cards and distribution roles. It is a career that teaches a specific lesson, and it is not the one most people expect.

Product, in his reading of the industry, is the easy part. The harder question is how anything reaches a customer three hundred kilometres from the nearest metro, and who that customer trusts enough to ask.

In 2022 he founded Techno Tara Pvt. Ltd. and built Genie Moneyy around that question. The platform is an app-based hybrid neo-banking marketplace carrying financial products from multiple Indian financial institutions, structured so that a customer sees several institutions’ offers side by side rather than the one available at the nearest branch.

Four years on, the numbers describe something with momentum. As on March 2026, closing FY 2025–26, the platform reported 431,750 registered users against 125,430 a year earlier, a

3.44 times expansion. Cumulative product accounts opened through the platform reached 77,981, covering savings accounts, demat accounts, credit cards, personal loans and mutual fund SIPs. Over 75 institutions and organisations have made their products available on the platform, among them banks, NBFCs and mutual fund houses.

The distribution engine sits alongside the app rather than behind it. Genie Moneyy works through 71,110 merchant partners: shop owners, business correspondents, customer service points and local agents who onboard customers in person. Engagement density has improved as the network has matured, with users per merchant rising from 4.8 to 6.1 over the financial year. The platform now covers 2,031 pin codes across 147 districts and seven States and Union Territories.

Roy Chowdhury’s own background reaches beyond the two banks on his résumé. He is an angel investor with a portfolio of sixteen startups, four of which have exited, and mentors fintech founders across the country. He has delivered keynotes at IIT Bombay, NIT Bhopal, NMIMS and Pune Engineering College, and spoken at the Banking Transformation Summit, the Financial Market Conclave and the ETCIO CDO Conclave. The work has drawn external recognition along the way: he was named an FE Fintech Champion by the Financial Express, a Global AI Leader by Trescon Global, and Most Admired BFSI Professional by the World BFSI Council in 2024, 2025 and 2026. The combination he describes as useful is not the banking years or the startup years on their own, but having sat on both sides of the same desk.

That perspective now extends to a second venture. On 14 September 2026, Roy Chowdhury launches BankShaala, a brand of BFSIJob Education LLP. It is a BFSI education and certification platform running career-building programmes across banking, financial services and insurance, built for graduates and early-career professionals entering the sector. Students receive certification on successful completion, and over 50 institutions and organisations have expressed interest in hiring students certified by the platform.

The company’s roadmap for FY 2026–27 is unglamorous and specific: a full mutual fund product suite beyond SIPs, an insurance vertical covering term life and general insurance, a migration from the current APK to a Play Store listing, and geographic expansion targeting 300 districts and ten States and Union Territories.

None of that is a departure from what he learned in banking. It is closer to a correction of it.

Genie Moneyy is a marketplace and distribution platform; products are issued by the respective institutions. Approvals, rates and terms are decided solely by the issuing institution.
