Gujarat: At just eight years of age, Kartavya Vaibhavkumar Rana is steadily establishing a distinctive identity in Indian theatre, acting, art and culture. A Class 3 student at Shri Santram English Medium School, Nadiad, Kartavya began his theatrical journey at an exceptionally young age and has continued to develop his abilities through live performances, competitions, theatrical productions and cultural presentations.
The past two years have been particularly significant in Kartavya’s artistic journey. During 2024–25 and 2025–26, he became a winner in mono-acting at the Taluka, District and Zone levels in Kala Mahakumbh, an annual Government of Gujarat initiative that provides platforms for young artists in various disciplines of art and culture.
During the same period, Kartavya completed 55 live mono-acting performances at 55 different locations within nine days, portraying characters including Lord Krishna and Kamdev.
His achievement was recognized by the India Book of Records under the title “Maximum Live Mono-Acting Performances Promoting Indian Theatre, Art and Culture.”
Yet Kartavya’s journey is much more than a record. It reflects the dedication, discipline, continuous practice and stage commitment of a child actor who has embraced Indian theatre from an exceptionally young age.
55 Live Mono-Acting Performances in Nine Days
As part of Mission 50+, Kartavya presented 55 live mono-acting performances at 55 different locations within nine days.
In these performances, he portrayed Lord Krishna and Kamdev, two characters with distinctly different personalities, emotional qualities, expressions and physical presentation.
Mono-acting is a demanding theatrical form in which the entire performance rests on a single actor. The performer must independently manage dialogue, voice, memory, facial expressions, body language, character interpretation, emotional communication and stage presence.
At such a young age, Kartavya embraced this demanding form of theatre and performed repeatedly before live audiences.
His repertoire has included mythological and historical characters such as Bharata Muni, Ashwatthama, Yuyutsu, Shakuni, Kartikeya, Abhimanyu, Lord Krishna and Kamdev, among others.
His live performances across schools, colleges, villages and other locations have reached more than 35,000 spectators.
Two Consecutive Years of Victory in Kala Mahakumbh
Kala Mahakumbh has become an important part of Kartavya’s competitive theatre journey.
In both 2024–25 and 2025–26, Kartavya became a winner in the mono-acting category at the Taluka, District and Zone levels.
Winning at multiple levels of the same performing-art discipline for two consecutive years reflects his consistency, preparation, acting ability and commitment to theatre.
These achievements add another significant dimension to his artistic profile alongside his 55 live mono-acting performances and India Book of Records recognition.
Vaibhav J. Rana: Writer and Director of All 55 Mono-Acting Performances
All 55 mono-acting performances presented by Kartavya under Mission 50+ were written and directed by Vaibhav J. Rana.
Vaibhav J. Rana is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Theatre Acting. He wrote the mono-acting pieces performed by Kartavya and guided him through their preparation, rehearsals, character work, dialogue delivery, emotional expression and stage presentation.
He is also Kartavya’s father. As a parent, Vaibhav J. Rana has continuously supported his son’s interest in acting and provided him with the guidance, discipline, rehearsal environment and opportunities necessary to develop as a young theatre performer.
The preparation involved regular rehearsal, character understanding, memorization, acting practice and repeated stage preparation. His continuous direction and mentorship have remained an important part of Kartavya’s theatrical development.
Dr. Hetal V. Rana’s Personal Contribution in Costume Design and Makeup
Kartavya’s mother, Dr. Hetal V. Rana, has also played a significant role in his theatrical journey.
For the Mission 50+ performances, she personally handled costume design, costume preparation and makeup.
Dr. Hetal V. Rana personally designed the costumes for both characters portrayed by her son—Lord Krishna and Kamdev—and also handled his makeup for the performances. She has personally designed all of Kartavya’s costumes for his theatrical performances to date.
One of the most demanding aspects of the Mission 50+ performances was Kartavya’s transformation from Lord Krishna to Kamdev.
The costume change and necessary makeup adjustments had to be completed within approximately 20–30 seconds.
For the audience, the transformation lasted only a few moments. Behind those moments, however, were preparation, repeated practice, speed, precision and a mother’s constant attention.
As a mother, Dr. Hetal V. Rana personally stood behind her son’s performances, managing costume requirements, makeup and rapid character transformations.
The father’s role as writer and director, together with the mother’s personal responsibility for costume design, costume changes and makeup, demonstrates the depth of parental support behind Kartavya’s artistic journey.
An Acting Journey That Began at Six Months
Kartavya’s connection with acting began at an exceptionally young age.
In 2018, at approximately six months of age, he appeared as infant Lord Shri Ram in the English short play “Parashuram,” presented by Yashasvi Foundation, Nadiad.
That early stage experience became the foundation for a continuing journey in theatre.
Over time, Kartavya has also gained experience in films, short films, music videos and advertising films, while theatre has remained the foundation of his artistic identity.
Multiple Awards and Honours During the Past Two Years
The past two years have brought Kartavya multiple recognitions for his work in acting and theatre.
His honours include the Yashasvi Bal Abhinay Ratna Award–2026, Mission 50+ Excellence Award, World Theatre Day Award, Child Theatre Actor Award, as well as Best Child Actor Awards associated with Sundarvan and Parashuram, among other recognitions.

Kartavya Rana’s candidature has been submitted for consideration for the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar–2026 in the Art & Culture (Theatre) category through Yashasvi Foundation.
His candidature has received recommendation letters and support from distinguished personalities and institutions associated with theatre, acting, cinema, education, art and culture.
The supporting recommendations include those from Padma Shri Jagdish Trivedi, senior actor Akhilendra Mishra, Dr. Mahesh Champaklal Shah, Dr. Navneet Chauhan, National Film Award Winner Abhishek Shah, Film Director and Theatre Personality Prem Rana, Natraj Theatres Trust, and Yashasvi Foundation.
These recommendations represent support from experienced individuals and organizations connected with acting, theatre, cinema, education and the broader fields of art and culture.
Prem Rana, who has been associated with film, theatre and the performing arts for approximately 27 years, has worked across creative roles including Film Director, Theatre Personality, Writer, Producer, Lyricist and Acting Coach.
Yashasvi Foundation: More Than 15 Years of Contribution to Theatre and Culture
The platform behind Mission 50+, Yashasvi Foundation, has been active for approximately 15 years in the fields of art and culture, theatre, music and dance.
According to the organization, Yashasvi Foundation has staged more than 1,000 theatrical productions during its journey.
It was within this theatrical environment that Kartavya received opportunities to learn, rehearse and perform before live audiences.
Mission 50+ became an important chapter in this journey, taking his mono-acting performances to different locations across Kheda district, Gujarat.
Kartavya Continues to Take on Major Lead Roles
Despite completing 55 live mono-acting performances and receiving multiple recognitions, Kartavya continues to remain actively engaged in theatre.
He is currently preparing for several major theatrical and cultural presentations connected with Bal Parayan–2026, based on the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita, organized by the Bal Pravritti Madhyasth Karyalaya, Ahmedabad, of BAPS.
On August 15 and 16, 2026, Kartavya will appear in major lead roles in various presentations on a high-level BAPS stage.
Main Role of Maniyo in “Maniyo Mahaviro”
Kartavya is playing the main role of Maniyo in “Maniyo Mahaviro,” a Drishya Rupak (Drishya Kavya) combining acting, dialogue, emotional expression and dance.
The presentation brings together spoken dialogue, acting and dance. Kartavya performs not only through dialogue and acting but also through dance, moving between acting sequences and dance portions as an integral part of the presentation.
This requires control over dialogue delivery, expressions, movement, rhythm and character portrayal.
Main Role of Arjuna in “Arjuna Ki Vihvalata”
Kartavya is also playing the main role of Arjuna in “Arjuna Ki Vihvalata.”
The role requires him to portray Arjuna’s emotional state, inner conflict and psychological turmoil through acting and expressive performance.
Main Role in “Mahabharata Yuddha – Sangeet-May Natak”
Kartavya is also performing a main role in “Mahabharata Yuddha – Sangeet-May Natak,” a musical theatrical presentation based on the Mahabharata.
Main Role of Arjuna in “Aap Jag Rahe Hain, Isliye Main So Raha Hoon”
In another theatrical presentation titled “Aap Jag Rahe Hain, Isliye Main So Raha Hoon,” Kartavya is again performing the main role of Arjuna.
The presentation gives him another opportunity to explore Arjuna as a character and develop his acting through dialogue, emotion and stage performance.
Balancing School, Rehearsals, Acting, Dance and Competition Preparation
At only eight years of age, Kartavya is balancing his academic responsibilities with an active theatrical schedule.
He is currently preparing different characters, memorizing dialogues, attending regular rehearsals, practicing acting and dance, preparing costume changes and working on different theatrical presentations.
At the same time, he continues to focus on his Class 3 studies and school homework.
Alongside the BAPS presentations, he is also preparing and rehearsing for the upcoming Kala Mahakumbh competition.
His current routine therefore combines school education, homework, acting practice, dance, character preparation, rehearsals, costume preparation and competition preparation.
The ability to maintain this balance at such a young age has become an important part of his ongoing artistic discipline.
A Child Actor Whose Journey Continues Beyond the Record
Kartavya Rana’s story is not simply the story of an eight-year-old child actor who completed 55 live performances.

Rana, his mother, has personally designed Kartavya’s costumes to date and has handled costume preparation, rapid costume changes and makeup for his performances.
For Kartavya, however, the record is not the destination.
The record is a milestone. Theatre is the journey.
